G1 To Get 2.0 Update

A recent article from our friends over at Engadget claims that the G1 (you remember? the first Android device) will be getting an over-the-air update with the rest of the latest Android devices to the new 2.0, or possibly, the Nexus One’s 2.1 software. While this would be a great update for all of the more »

Motorola DROID boosting Android’s popularity

In November 2009, Verizon had been applauded for launching two new Android running phones, the HTC DROID Eris and the Motorola DROID. The latter of the two seems to really have hit a spot with Verizon customers as it is steadily making Android a lot more popular within the United States and worldwide. One of more »

G1 users to receive Android 1.5 update starting next week

A lot of news has been circulating about the update (a.k.a. Cupcake) to the Android OS, which the T-Mobile G1 runs on, and it is ready for showtime. Word has just been announced from T-Mobile that the G1 will begin receiving the over-the-air update starting at the end of next week.

Since many people own the G1 in the United States, it will take the rest of May for all users to receive the update, so don’t get frustrated and begin calling customer support if your update takes longer than expected. With the new update comes a lot of improvements and features, here are some that caught my eye.

imeem launches Android app called imeem Mobile

If you enjoy using imeem’s music service and own the T-Mobile G1, you will be happy to know that they recently came out with an app that allows you to access your music right on your Android powered phone.

imeem updated their mobile service to include “MyMusic,” which lets you stream your personal imeem library to your G1 phone. Essentially, you can upload as much music as you want to your personal account and then access it by downloading imeem’s free Android app, which was just announced and made available today. In addition, users still have access to the other mobile features such as creating Internet radio stations, read artist bio’s, and purchase DRM-free MP3 music through Amazon. Users can also share music with friends by sending the link of a song in email format.

Down but not out: Kogan reveals new Android prototype

Recently Kogan, a small Australian cell phone manufacturer, made waves in the Android world when it announced its Agora and Agora Pro Android phones. Had they reached market, the handsets would have been the second Android phones available to the general public following T-Mobile’s G1. Unfortunately even though the pair of phones garnered significant interest in the mobile world, in January, Kogan leadership announced that production on the units would be delayed indefinitely. At the time, there was a great deal of speculation as to whether this was due to the handset displays not meeting the minimum requirements for an upcoming Android refresh.

Got $45? Get a T-Mobile G1 Google phone

T-Mobile, recognizing that folks don’t want to part with a big chunk of change these days, has decided $179 is a big chunk. Instead of parting with nine $20 bills all at once, customers desiring the Android OS G1 smartphone can leave the store after paying just $45 and signing on the dotted line.

T-Mobile is letting customers break the cost of the phone into four payments. The norm in other industries and the fodder of QVC television sales, easy payments is a great option. We get the feeling other carriers will jump on this rather quickly.

Android G2 spy shots – where is the rest of it?

These shots are purportedly the G2 Android phone from HTC. This leak comes from Gizmodo and matches up the to supposed leak of the entire HTC line we saw earlier this month. If accurate, the big news here is losing the keyboard that the G1 relied upon allowing this phone to be much thinner looking. more »

T-Mobile G1 tethering somewhat a reality

People often try to “tether” their Internet capable devices to their PCs or laptops in order to get Internet on them on the go. Many tried with the iPhone, but weren’t very successful. When the T-Mobile G1 first was announced, one of the main questions was if the G1 could support tethering. Back when it was announced, not many people thought they could tether their G1. However, some people began posting in the TmoNewsForums on how to tether your G1 over USB. Continued after the break.

Looking for the best deal around? Try Compare Everywhere

With the amount of available Google Android Apps out there, it is important that you know what each app does and how it works. I was looking through a list of Android Apps and one that I found particularly interesting was Compare Everywhere.

I’m not that big of a shopper, but when I buy something big such as a TV, laptop, or a MP3 player, I like to compare the prices to find out where I can get the best deal. Sometimes, I am already out looking for something I really need, and I don’t have the time to research to find the best prices, and here is where Compare Everywhere would come in handy.

Basically, the purpose of Compare Everywhere is to help you, the shopper, find the best deal around on a certain item. For example purposes, let’s say you are interested in buying some new Nike shoes. You would begin buy pointing your camera at the barcode. Once the picture is saved into your phone, you access the barcode picture within the App itself and you can compare the price from the store you are in to stores nearby. Then, you can even call the store directly, or use the GPS in the G1 to find directions to that store. More after the break.
