Upcoming Facebook features reminds us of Google+

Facebook is getting ready to launch new features this week that will remind a lot of people of the most unique features of Google+. Beginning this Thursday, Facebook will let users decide who they want to direct status messages to. Facebook users can choose to post statuses to the public, friends or to a customizable list. This update will also be coming to Facebook-developed mobile applications.

Facebook photo scanning rolling out, participation is optional

Facebook started implementing a new tagging feature last year that automatically scans photographs while suggesting the names of people who may be in the picture. Over the next few weeks, Facebook will enable this feature to all of its U.S. users. Facebook will continue rolling out this feature until it has reached users all over the world.

Ready for the world’s first geotagging video camera? It’s coming.

“Every breath you take… Every move you make… Every bond you break… Every step you take.. I’ll be watching you.” Is it the end of privacy as we know it? People knowing where we are, and when we are there, seeing whatever it is we are doing. Or, just a cool and fun new way to geotag? Geotagging is nothing new and most of us are familiar with the term by now. Take a photo, and “tag” your location to tell all your friends or family where you were at when you shot it. But now, tagged single shots are going to seem like dinosaurs.

Tagcow automatically makes photos searchable through autotagging

A new web 2.0 service dubbed Tagcow has sprung out of nowhere a couple of days ago. Tagcow, so far has managed to create quite a stir and although Tagcow maybe a cool and useful application, some are questioning the new service, emphasizing on the accuracy of tagging, its usefulness and the never ending question on privacy statements.

In brief, Tagcow is a photo tagging service that automatically assigns descriptive tags to photos that users upload into Tagcow. The service identifies the objects in a given photo, and then assigns generic descriptive tags based on photos subject.
