Google Voice now allowing current users to change their number

Google Voice has just announced a new feature — the ability for current users to change their Google Voice number. Sure, this feature is currently limited to those lucky enough to actually have received an invitation, but at the same time I am sure there are plenty of original GrandCentral users who are feeling the more »

Google Voice getting closer to launch, Google secures one million phone numbers

It does look like Google has recently taken a step that makes it appear as if they are preparing to launch Google Voice sooner than later. Google has recently grabbed one million phone numbers with Level 3, which for those unfamiliar, Level 3 is the service Google has already been using with Google Voice. Unfortunately more »

Gadgetell Guide: Life without a landline

The landline telephone is on the way out. 20% of homes are now wireless only. Maybe you’re part of the 80% who still has a landline. What can you do to ditch that landline? Keep reading.

First off, unless you want to cut yourself off and try something very experimental, you’re going to need some other phone. Grab yourself a cell phone. Which cell phone is best for you is really a personal decision.

Gadgetell Review: XLink Bluetooth Cellular Gateway

Ever miss a call at home because you had to dig out your cellphone from your coat or bag? Ever wish you could meld your landline with your cellphone? Well, let me introduce you to a solution to both – the XLink Bluetooth Cellular Gateway. Gadgetell has tested it out for you.

Get to know Google Voice: A walkthrough

Google’s put some serious investment into Google Voice and I am fired up about it. I am a longtime user of GrandCentral and have come to love and hate it. Here is a five minute walkthough (actual times may vary, but that is all on you) on how you can love this service too. Google Voice provides you with a phone number. From that one number you can set up the service to ring your home, cell, work, mistress, payphone, fire chief, etc. So, one call to your Google Voice number can ring all these numbers you entered, simultaneously. How is this helpful? I’ve got work calls coming to my GV number and if I don’t feel like burning cell minutes, I can pick up the land line. Google allows you to control when your Google Voice number rings each phone (weekdays, weekends, or custom). These options are an improvement over the old GrandCentral.

The ooma Telo makes an appearance

Ooma recently introduced its Ooma Telo, the replacement for the Ooma Hub and Scout.

The Telo was at CES, but Ooma kept the actual handset behind glass. Seeing it in person, the Telo looks like a pretty stylish phone. When released, It will be sold in various bundles from $199 to $299. The Telo supports up to six handsets. The previous Ooma model used regular phones attached to Ooma’s system.

90% of landline ditchers never go back; here is a gadget for them

Fun stats, right? According to XLINK, it is accurate and 20% of US households are doing just that by the end of this year, jumping off the landline bandwagon. But is going all cell going to work for your family? XLINK happens to make a product that it believes will make the transition super-easy. Stop more »

Want to skip the talking part and just leave a message? Try Slydial

MobileSphere recently launched a free voice messaging service called (very aptly!) Slydial, that connects you automatically to someone’s voice mail so you can leave a message when you don’t feel like going through the conversation mode, or are pressed for time.

Some of the scenario’s they present where Slydial could be especially useful are quite humorous, others very realistic. Feel like taking a play day and you are calling in “oh so sick” and don’t want to actually talk to your boss? There you go. How about that “let’s just be friends” call that you’re too chicken to actually have the other person on the other end of the line listening to because you don’t want to hear an hour’s worth of sobbing? Uh-huh. Want to call and thank Great Aunt Bessie for the lovely birthday sweater she sent you, but don’t want to hear all about her aches and pains for a half-hour? Yep, you’re seeing where this could come in handy, aren’t you?

The CSN-7040, CIN-7000: Portable Navigation Devices with tactile feedback

Korea seems to be the launching pad for innovation when it comes to new technology and the world of portable navigational devices (PND’s) is currently madly spinning. Computer Telephone Technology (CTT-Net) is now ready to launch its two newest PND’s to a waiting world.

The CSN-7040 is the very first portable navigation device to incorporate Immersion’s TouchSense system, which enables tactile feedback on touch-screens. The CIN-7000 is a built-in car navigation system that also uses the TouchSense technology and improves general safety by reducing the “glance-time” while driving. Both navigation units have a 7-inch touch screen and a DMB receiver for satellite downloads.
