Verizon will throttle 4G speeds for network abuse

Verizon announced its “network optimization” practices last month. This is Verizon’s idea of data throttling although it refuses to acknowledge that term. Basically, Verizon will slow 3G data speeds for top users if they are connected to a congested cell site. It has just been proven that 4G data users are also affected by the network optimization policy if Verizon concludes that user is abusing its network.

AT&T confirms data throttling for top 5% of data users

AT&T has confirmed this week’s rumor about the company moving away from unlimited data and into world of data throttling. Starting on October 1, AT&T will slow data speeds for the top 5% of data users. Chances are most of you reading this won’t notice any difference in speed. It’s still something to know just in case you use a bunch of data every month.

AT&T may start slowing data speeds in October

Throttling data speeds is nothing new. Just about all the major carriers are doing it. As smartphones penetration increases, carriers need a way to manage all the bandwidth that’s being sucked up by those phones. If they don’t, connection speeds will slow to a crawl. AT&T has had network congestion problems for a long time and it’ll probably get worse once the new iPhone arrives. It seems that T-Mobile is all set to begin throttling data for users that go over the 5GB monthly limit. Comcast hints that new data cap may not be set in stone

Gigaom is reporting that the new 250GB cap Comcast announced recently may not be set in stone. In a chat with the site, Comcast spokeperson Charlie Douglas said the cap, which is roughly 100 times more than the average Comcast customer uses in a month, will likely rise as average consumption rises.
