TiVo slashes price on HD and HD XL – get Netflix, Amazon, Blockbuster and YouTube all for less

TiVo has reduced prices on their HD and HD XL units by up to $100 for the holidays. TiVo revolutionized DVR functionality and continues to drive services forward with integration with companies like Netflix, Amazon and BLOCKBUSTER allowing users to stream movies, even in HD, to their home TVs. It is unknown if the sale more »

TiVo bringing Blockbuster OnDemand to its DVRs

TiVo already has a number of services available in its Video on Demand section including Amazon and Netflix. This morning, they added Blockbuster OnDemand. If you have a Tivo Series2, Series3, HD, or HD XL, you will be able to access the Blockbuster content.

Also part of the deal TiVo DVRs will be sold at Blockbuster’s online and brick and mortar stores. That makes plenty of sense. Why wouldn’t Blockbuster sell a device that allows you to access their OnDemand service?

The service will be in TiVo DVRs sometime after June, 2009. I’m a bit surprised by this deal because when TiVo lined up a deal with Netflix, I thought they were choosing sides between Blockbuster and Netflix. This makes the TiVo more computer-like in the way you can access video services. I wonder what they will add next.

TiVo aims to be the Google of television with new TiVo Search

Normally, you could search for shows on a TiVo, but it was far from elegant. Today, January 7, 2009, TiVo announced its upgraded TiVo Search that should allow for users to still get search results, but also discover content.

Content suggestions are pulled from television listings and also from the Internet. You might find a clip from YouTube that is related to a television show that you watch. With thousands of programs on television, it’s hard finding new things to watch. A “discovery engine” is a great idea to find fresh shows.

TiVo finally beefs up their DVR with 150 hours of HD recording

After years of DVRs with less than aqueduct hard drive space (first for analog video and most recently for HD). Well I am excited to let you know that as of today TiVo is walking the walk. The TiVo HD XL box offers more recording capacity than any other DVR available, be it satellite or cable — 150 hours of HD recording capacity. Dual internal tuners allow you to record two different shows in HD at the same time, while watching a third pre-recorded show.
