Gadgetell tests the T-Mobile G1’s call quality
Gadgetell got to try out the call quality of a T-Mobile G1 and compare it to an iPhone 3G. There were no decibel meters or any other fancy scientific equipment used, just two guys with decent hearing and some phones.
While at the T-Mobile G1 Android event, I got to talk with the guys from Big in Japan, makers of the ShopSavvy application. We were discussing the G1 as a phone when I asked their “Tech Shogun,” Rylan Barnes, about call quality of the G1. He said it was alright.
Knowing that the Gadgetell readers out there would like to find out how the G1 performs as a phone firsthand (or first-ear as the case may be), we conducted some tests.
See how the phones performed in a noisy hall after the break.
LG’s bargain touchscreen phone
Hit by hard times? Financial markets got you worried about dropping bucks on a shiny new phone? LG feels your pain and wants to reach out to all those folks who want the sexy touchscreen-type phone with the aptly named KP500. KP as in “Kitchen Pass,” as in you won’t need to check with your significant other to buy it thanks to its super low retail price. Unfortunately, I suspect LG did not name it the KP for that reason.

Verizon says “soon” for the Blackberry Storm
Watch out iPhone, there’s a Storm on the horizon. Soon to be released by Verizon, the Blackberry Storm just may give the popular iPhone a run for their money.
Originally rumored to be called the “Thunder,” the name became the more powerful “Storm.” And the name just may fit. The device features a 3.2 megapixel camera that takes both stills and video (the iPhone’s 2.0 megapixel camera can’t do video unless you jailbreak it). The Storm also has turn-by-turn navigation (nope, iPhone doesn’t). Want to swap out batteries? The device formerly known as the Storm has a removable battery (sorry, iPhone. We know your users have to go to Apple).
Basic Tab mobile phone could teach iPhone a thing or two
Forget the iPhone 3G. You heard me. Forget it. You see, I got something better for you: the Basic Tab phone.
This Basic Tab phone, currently a concept by designer Jaren Goh, takes that same concept of the iPhone with the full touch screen interface and gives it an edgier feel. Comparing the coolness factors of the two devices is like comparing Herbie vs. Knight Rider.
In other words, I think we all know what looks cooler, hands-down. The Basic Tab has the edge because of its use of red translucent materials, and then adds a touch of chrome for a steel look.
