Time Warner selling movies that are still in theaters

Time Warner has began offering its video-on-demand customers access to brand new films on the same day they hit theaters. Starting today, Time Warner is selling pay-per-view access to the film Trespass starring Nicholas Cage and Nicole Kidman for $6.99 .The film is also available in theaters today as well. Time Warner will follow-up this strategy with Marginal Call on October 21.

Free porn is putting a dent in Time Warner’s wallet

Porn is something you wouldn’t think a cable company CEO would talk about. Even though porn brings in a lot of extra dollars, it’s one of those things that is too taboo for a lot of people. Interestingly enough, Time Warner’s CEO Glen Britt mentioned the demand (or lack thereof) for porn when discussing his company’s video on demand service during the companies Q2 2011 earnings conference call.

Blu-ray adaption, subscription video services increase in 2011

The Digital Entertainment Group released a report today detailing home entertainment expenditures in the Unites States for the first quarter of 2011. Based on this report, it appears as if traditional video rental establishments are losing a lot of business to alternative business models. Blu-ray adaptation is also on the rise.

AMC and Regal movie theaters fight back against video on demand

At the beginning of April, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures agreed to launch a premium video on demand service called Home Premiere. Home Premiere will provide access to movies two months after they’ve arrived in theaters. The cost to rent each movie will be $30 for a period of two to three days. Some theaters aren’t too happy about this service because it could possibly negatively affect theater visits. AMC Entertainment and Regal Entertainment are just to companies that are willing to go to extremes to to combat Home Premiere.

Home Premiere video on-demand service launch this month

Major movies studios such as 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Sony and Universal are ready to release a new video on-demand service at the end of April. The service is called Home Premiere and it offers movie rentals for films that have been in theaters for two months. Each movie will cost $30 to rent for 48 to 72 hours. This VOD service is meant to grab customers who would have missed new movies as soon as they were released in theaters.

BBC is bringing its iPlayer service to America via an iPad app
