Palm looking to release game-friendly webOS framework?

As the iPhone App Store continues to grow, Palm Pre owners are stuck with a rather slim selection of apps so far. The recently released SDK will help alleviate that problem, though there are some major differences between the Pre and iPhone SDK. The biggest difference is that the webOS SDK (officially known as the more »

Palm Pre bits: 1 million apps downloaded and the Pre is now available with Sprint telesales

It was not all that long ago when we were celebrating the App Catalog reaching 700,000 downloads and now it has reached that magical one million mark. Of course, as our own JG Mason asked the other day, “Just 7 apps per Palm Pre downloaded is impressive?”

Palm Pre bits: webOS updated to 1.0.3, Tweed updated to 0.9.7 and the lack of available webOS SDK

Despite all of the recent hype surrounding the recently released iPhone 3G S, the Palm Pre has also had its share of news. In addition to the recent news about the App Market hitting almost 700,000 downloads already, we have recently seen an update to webOS, an update to Tweed as well as learned the slightly disappointing news about the webOS SDK release.

webOS updated to version 1.0.3

First up in this little Palm Pre bits post is the recent update to webOS, which was updated to version 1.0.3. Palm unveils second Palm Pre video demo, webOS SDK availability and Palm OS emulation

CTIA seems to have proven a busy time for Palm in regards to the Pre. Unfortunately, we still have not seen a release date or official price, however Palm has unveiled some more information.

To begin with, they have released a second Palm Pre video demonstration called “This Weekend” which highlights items such as being able to play Pandora in the background. Additionally, the video also shows other apps such as Fandango as well as other multitasking goodies.

In addition to the video, Palm has also begun taking applications for developer access to the Mojo SDK as part of an “early access program.” As of now, the developers that will be approved are limited and will have to be approved directly by Palm. The general availability for the Mojo SDK is expected “later this year.”

Finally, Palm has also announced the release of a PalmOS emulator for the Pre called Classic. While all the details were not released, Classic has been created by MotionApps and is expected to allow Palm Pre users to run some classic PalmOS based apps. Of course, this sounds more like a temporary solution, because Classic will not be able to use much of the webOS functionality that will make the Pre special. According to the description from Palm, it sounds like it will be a good app for current Palm users who switch to the Pre. That way they can move over and not lose any of the current favorite apps while waiting for an updated version for the Pre.

Now, if we could just see something a little more specific for a release date aside from the first half of 2009.
