Google updates Voice app on Android to include widgets
The T-Mobile G2 was known to feature a new iteration of the Google Voice app for Android, which basically featured two new widgets. Today, Google pushed out that update to the Android Market, so users can update their Google Voice app or download it for the first time. Basically, the widgets are known as Inbox more »
Google Buzz widget now available on Android
Android’s differences in look and feel to the iPhone stand out when you show the home screen. On the iPhone you are greeted with rows and columns of little chicklet style shortcuts. However Android’s home screen is a bit more intuitive, allowing you to set widgets to the home screen that perform functions of the more »
LG rolls out slick phone UI, invites you to play with it via desktop widget
LG is very proud of their S-Class OS and want everyone to get some playtime with it. So the easiest way to do that is to create a downloadable widget for your computer and let you play with the 3D tumbling and sliding fun of the S-Class OS right from the comfort of your very own machine. This is roughly the opposite of what Apple did with their OS-X migrating from computers to the iPhone OS.
The download is an interesting beast. The widget uses InstallShield to install on your machine. You are asked to agree to what I am sure are ridiculous terms and away the install goes. Clicking on the cube icon launches the UI widget. A cube appears allowing you to spin through the four main sides of the cube: Desktop, Widgets, Games, Multimedia.
Viddler bumps up features including widgets
There are plenty of options when it comes to video sharing sites. YouTube has been the big player, but has been very slow rolling out features. Viddler’s big distinguishing feature is allowing comments to be placed at certain points during the video.
Now Viddler has come out with “Vidgets” (widgets, get it?) that allow you to share playlists a lot easier. If you’ve got a bunch of videos, you can easily just embed a list in several different ways. Each widget is pretty customizable and a preview shows you what to expect. Also, it looks like an easy way of embedding code once and updating via adding to the list.
Sprint: Plug into widget overload
Sprint is all over the place. They just lost 1.3 million customers, they’ve got their CEO on television yammering about technology, and now they’ve unveiled this thing. What is it? It is Sprint’s promotion of its mobile broadband service featuring over 30 widgets. At random intervals, a woman’s voice will say things like, “Feel free more »
Pizza gets TiVo’d
Domino’s and TiVo have gotten together to allow kids to prank their parents by ordering up to $100 in pizza. Either that or give TiVo users the convenience of ordering their pizza from the comfort of their couch. Taking advantage of TiVo’s widgets, Domino’s is bringing ordering options to broadband-connected TiVo Series2/3/HD owners.
Truth be told, I’ve not eaten a Domino’s pizza since I was in college, but for sake of gadgetry and the same reason I order brochures after watching 2 minute BMW ads on TiVo because I just think it is cool, I might just do this. Imagine watching a football game and a link comes on screen that says, “you look hungry, how about a pizza?” You click yes and 30 minutes or so later you are chowing down. That is a utopia we all can aspire to.
FriendFeed: Live blogging gone wild
FriendFeed launched a new feature last night, real-time updating. With this feature, you can see all the most recent FriendFeed posts without even having to refresh the page. As nifty as this new feature is, it can also get a bit crazy.
The site has essentially turned the web into a giant chatroom according to Robert Scoble. You’ve got it all going on here, not just the chatting, but videos, photos, tweets, and more. Every item has its own URL, as well as its own RSS feed. You’re able to comment on everything there, not just on the “commentary” like in a chat room.
Much more after the break!
