Those disappointed by the current North American Vita game library have yet another game to look forward to playing. It turns out D3 Publisher has decided that we need Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable in our lives and is working on bringing it to us. Granted, we don’t know when it’s coming to us, but hopefully we’ll see it sometime in 2012 or 2013, and not in 2017.
You may be thinking that the Earth Defense Force 2017 part sounds familiar. It should. Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable is a slightly enhanced port of an Xbox 360 game of the same name that we originally saw back in 2007. Basically, UFOs carrying Ravagers dropped off gigantic ants and mechs and players are part of the Earth Defense Force team fighting them. Basically, it’s as though someone turned a B-movie into a video game.
Let’s get into extra features. The Vita version will of course support local and online multiplayer for up to four people. You can contact a friend or three and fight the aliens together. It also brings in a heroine called Palewing, who originally appeared in Earth Defense Force 2. You have to unlock her before you can use her.
This announcement actually came pretty quickly, now that I think about it. Earth Defense Force 3 Portable, that’s what it’s called in Japan, was only just released there today (September 27, 2012)! I guess D3 Publisher isn’t going to bother seeing how it does there and instead is just going to power through and bring it to us.
