Disney has announced that, to help promote the November 2, 2012, release of its animated feature film salute to 8-bit gaming, Wreck-It Ralph, it is sending a set of twelve arcade cabinets featuring the film’s game across the US.

The game within the movie is titled Fix-It Felix, Jr. (which beckons the question: What happens to Fix-It Felix?) and is based on the game within the movie. In the film, Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) becomes tired of being the perpetual bad guy so he begins to game hop. Naturally, something goes terribly wrong putting the entire arcade in danger.

The advertising and cameo list for the game, er, movie includes characters from several classic licensed games including Sonic, the Pac-Man ghosts (Inky, Blinky and Pinky), Q*Bert, Bowser and Chun-Li (Street Fighter).

I have not yet received official photos of the cabinets (I suppose they look a lot like the cabinets from E3 2012) or footage of the game but I do plan to check it out this week as it comes through Cincinnati, Ohio (USA).  Also check back for a more complete list of the tour dates and all 20 tour locations.

Here are some of the Fix-It specs from Disney’s press release: “The Fix-It Felix Jr. gaming console measures 24″L x 62″W x 33″H. The console weighs in at 307 pounds and features a 19-inch color raster monitor.” It also includes a two-player mode and is made to look like an ’80s-era game and cabinet.

I just hope I don’t get a physical beat down from Ralph when I give it a try.

Here are the details for the Cincinnati stop:

Arcade Legacy (Cincinnati Mills Mall)
662 Cincinnati Mills Drive
Cincinnati, OH  45240
Tuesday, October 16, 2012 (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.)
Wednesday, October 17, 2012 (3:00 p.m. to midnight)

Wreck-It Ralph will be in theaters November 2, 2012, nationwide. Check the trailer below.

Update 10/15/2012: I have been told the local Disney rep that this is one of the first stops on the tour so the rest of the cities are not yet “100% confirmed” but they will send it along as soon as it is.
