Well that’s it ladies and gents. Our fearless and selfless Commander Shepard is no more. Forget what you saw at the end of Mass Effect 3. Even if Shepard is alive, he’s not coming back. BioWare has confirmed with VG247 that Shepard will not be associated with Mass Effect going forward.

Here’s a direct quote about the matter from BioWare Montreal producer Fabrice Condominas.

“There is one thing we are absolutely sure of – there will be no more Shepard, and the trilogy is over,” Condominas said.

BioWare hasn’t nailed down where the next Mass Effect game will take. It hasn’t even determined where the next game will fit into the canon. One thing Condominas did reveal is that the next hero won’t just be a reskinned Shepard. BioWare is going for something different.

Shepard had a good run. As much as we love our own variation of him, it’s time to move on.
