In what is certainly the most surprising news of the day, Disney has agreed to purchase Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock. Under the terms of the agreement, Disney will also own Skywalker Sound, Industrial Light & Magic and LucasArts.

This deal also means Disney will own the Stars Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. This announcement also revealed that Star Wars Episode 7 is in production and will release in 2015. More Star Wars films will be released every two to three years. Disney will also leverage Star Wars branded toys and expand it accordingly.

This story is ongoing. We’ll have more information in due time.

  1. Well that’s one big reason never to see another Lucasfilms movie. I hate Disney and everything they stand for so I certainly won’t be paying to see any more Star Wars movies from now on.

Very sad news for anyone that doesn’t want to give their hard-earned money to a pseudo-cult.
