Over the past week, we’ve seen two extremes in the gaming industry. THQ is on its last leg, and Activision Blizzard has outperformed its initial expectations for the third quarter of 2012. Activision Blizzard reported revenues of $841 million, which is up from $754 million in 2011. Activision Blizzard also reported revenues of $427 million from digital content. It accounted for more than half of the companies revenues for the quarter.
Activision’s success can be attributed to World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, Skylanders Spyro’s Adventures and Diablo III. All signs are pointing to another very successful quarter for the company once it tallies sales from Skylanders Giants and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
