PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale comes out next week on November 20, 2012 and Sony’s done quite a bit to make the brawler more appealing. There’s pre-order costume DLC via a number of retailers. There’s that cross-buy promotion where PS3 owners get a copy of the Vita version for free. Now there’s news that two extra characters will be added for free.
Kat from Gravity Rush and Emmett from Starhawk will both be part of the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale roster eventually. Sony says they’ll be available early next year, so probably in the first weeks of January 2013. During their launch window, people won’t have to pay for them. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale owners will be able to grab both characters for free for the first two weeks they’re available. After that, a price tag will undoubtedly be attached, but still. Two weeks is more than enough time to download these two.
This brings the confirmed character roster up quite a bit. Prior to this announcement, there were only 20 confirmed PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale fighters. So this means we get a bit more variety, for free, when we play.
It also opens a door. If Sony is willing to release free DLC characters to expand the roster, then perhaps in the coming months we’ll see some paid DLC characters as well. Call me crazy, but seeing Cloud from Final Fantasy VII in there would encourage me to open my wallet. Of course, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII is more likely, but I can dream!
