From now until January 14, 2013, Matrix Games is having a holiday sale on many of its most popular titles.

Matrix mostly focuses on war games set in the 20th century and has become the home of famous designers including Gary Grigsby.

If World War II isn’t on your Christmas list, but you know someone that’s really digging the Lincoln movie, you should check out Matrix’s selection of Civil War titles.

If you’re really trying to avoid anything educational (it happens), then Distant Worlds is a playable real time strategy game set in the far future, and there are dozens of other titles on sale. War games have better legs than most computer games. Unlike role-playing games, a war game is usually worth playing over and over again, making them, dollar-for-dollar, a better investment.
