Back in September 2012, North America and Europe finally got a new One Piece game. It was One Piece: Pirate Warriors from Omega Force, Tecmo Koei and Namco Bandai. Which means that it was exactly like the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games in terms of actual gameplay. People got to experience the early One Piece storylines with their favorite characters by taking on hordes of enemies and racing around maps. It did pretty well, meriting a sequel in Japan. I guess it didn’t do too badly in Europe either, because it will get One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 in 2013.
You’re probably wondering if that means North America will get One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 as well. That’s currently unknown. For some reason, Namco Bandai and other companies have always been more open to the idea of releasing One Piece games in Europe than they have in North America. It’s an odd quirk. It could just be they sell better there. I’d think Sony would want to talk Bamco into releasing One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 here, seeing as it’s a PS3 and PS Vita game.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 is still in development in Japan, so there isn’t a lot of information available as of yet. We do know that it takes place after the time skip, during the New World saga. So odds are it will include at the very least a trunicated view of events from the Return to Sabaody and Fishman Island arcs. Also, Luffy, Zoro and Sanji have been confirmed as playable characters, with Enel confirmed as an opponent.
I’m not a huge One Piece fan, but I’d like to see One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 in North America. Mainly because I want the Vita version. I’m a sucker for Musou games and for some reason, Dynasty Warriors Next didn’t do it for me. I know I liked One Piece: Pirate Warriors, so I’m sure the sequel would be much more engaging.
