Atlus is bringing us a new game in the first quarter of 2013 called God Mode. (Yay!) It’s not a delightful RPG from Japan. (Okay.) It’s some random, attack anything that moves with guns game that seems to focus on multiplayer even though it also has a single player mode. (What?) It’s also being developed by Old School Games. (Who?) It won’t break the bank either, as it’ll only cost $9.99 if you buy it for the PS3, Xbox 360 or PC. (At least that’s something.)

God Mode is a shooter with RPG elements that stars a character who is descended from an abandoned god. He died and is in the Maze of Hades. Since he part of a once great family, he has the opportunity to fight his way to a place among the gods again atop Mount Olympus. That means people better customize their character with new abilities and one of 11 weapons and fight anything in their paths either in the single or multiplayer modes. If you play with friends, you work together to try and reclaim your honor.

If I don’t sound all that excited, it’s because I’m still a bit stunned by the announcement. I always am when Atlus decides to release a game like this. Especially one like God Mode. I’m not exactly sure what to think about it yet. Let’s watch the trailer and see if that helps.

Nope. That didn’t help.

Atlus, I love you. I really do. You’re one of my all time, favorite game developers and publishers. But I don’t love you for games like this. Games like this make me facepalm and wonder what you’re thinking. Really, instead of this, Rock of Ages or that Sherlock Holmes game, go translate and localize something awesome from Japan for us instead. Please. We’ll wait.
