It’s a Christmas (Festivus?) miracle! Atelier Meruru, what I largely consider the best entry in the PS3 Arland Atelier trilogy, is headed to the Vita. At least, that’s the latest news out of Japan. Just like Atelier Totori Plus, Atelier Meruru Plus‘ debut has been leaked thanks to an early store listing.
It’s gone now, but 7Net Shopping had a Atelier Meruru Plus listing online earlier today saying Japan would be able to take Meruru anywhere for alchemy mixing and kingdom building on March 20, 2013. As with Atelier Totori Plus, it will have tons of new extras like some Vita-specific controls, all of the PS3 version’s DLC included on the cart, more monsters and more events. There will also be extra costumes for Meruru and her friends and additional DLC.
Atelier Meruru Plus will also have another feature the original Atelier Meruru lacked. It will connect to Atelier Totori Plus. If you have the save file from the previous game on your Vita, Atelier Meruru will pick up on that. It won’t change the game as a whole though – it will only have an effect on Totori. See, Totori was the main character in Atelier Totori and Atelier Totori Plus, but she’s Meruru’s mentor in Atelier Meruru and Atelier Meruru Plus, making her just another party member. If the save data is there, she’s stronger in battle and will have costumes from her previous game.
The real question is, will we see Atelier Meruru Plus outside of Japan. I say yes. NIS America is very proactive about the Atelier series and we did get Atelier Totori and Atelier Meruru. Even though Atelier Totori Plus hasn’t received a US release yet, I’m confident we’ll see both Vita games eventually, with at least one appearing in North America and maybe even Europe before 2013 ends.
