The Epix app may be free, but the service is not. When it does launches on Sony’s consoles, you’ll be able to sign up for a 14-day free trial from the Epix website. After that trial is over, you will need to subscribe to Epix through your cable or satellite provider if you want to continue using the service. According to its website, Epix is available through Charter, Cox Communications, Dish Network, Mediacom, Suddenlink and Verizon FiOS. As you may have guessed, Epix on the PS3 and Vita will only be available in the United States.
If you’re a cord cutter, Epix won’t have any use to you after the free trial expires. Unlike services like Netflix, Epix does not stand on its own. If you want something that’s completely free, Crackle may be of interest to you. It doesn’t include recent releases, but there’s no commitment required.
