The GameStick is one of the most successful gaming-related Kickstarter campaigns of 2013. After reaching its funding, the PlayJam announced support for XBMC, DLNA, the Green Throttle controller and its intentions to add SD card support the console. Unfortunately, the project in general is at risk of not happening at all thanks to a legal issue.
If you try to visit the GameStick Kickstarter page, you’ll be greeted by a message that says, “GameStick: The Most Portable TV Games Console Ever Created is the subject of an intellectual property dispute and currently unavailable.” It’s not possible to pledge any money to the project, but current backers can still manage their pledges.
The nature of the intellectual property dispute was not disclosed. PlayJam released a brief statement on its Facebook page that doesn’t shine any light on the dispute either.
“Hi everyone, we’ve just become aware of this intellectual property dispute on kickstarter. We apologize for any confusion this may cause our backers, supporters and fans. We are looking into this immediately and we will update you as soon as possible.”
PlayJam has 30 days to resolve this issue or the GameStick Kickstarter campaign will be shut down.
