You know, I’ve always wanted to start my day with 12 people I’ve never met before. Fortunately, Sony has magically heard my secret and unvoiced desire and delivered Wake-up Club. Though Wake-up club was first revealed in April 2012, it decided to sleep in until 2013. Sony had it at its CES 2013 booth, however, and on January 15, 2013 we’ll all be able to start our days with other, random Vita owners.
Here’s how Wake-up Club works. Vita owners download the free base app from the PlayStation Store once the store updates on Tuesday, January 15. They then have to go into the system settings to make sure the date and time is set automatically. After that, they launch Wake-up Club and set their alarm. From there, it’s as simple as having the Vita on, by your bedside each morning. When the alarm goes off, you have to tap the icon to show you’re awake. You’ll then get to enter a room with avatars for 12 people who set their alarms for the same time as you. You can tap their icons to help wake up the ones who are still sleeping, check your wake-up stats, check their stats and even send friend requests to the strangers.
I think the weirdest thing about Wake-up Club isn’t the fact that the app congratulates you for waking up or sends strangers’ avatars to help try and wake you up if you oversleep. No, the crazy thing is Wake-up Club has trophies. You know, because nothing gets you up in the morning faster than knowing there’s a trophy in it for you for getting up the moment the alarm sounds.
Wait, no. That can still be topped. Wake-up Club will have DLC. People can pay to add additional app themes and alarm tones. There we go. We’ve got DLC and trophies – Wake-up Club is officially crazy.
In case you’re wondering, I’m totally downloading Wake-up Club. It’s free. I can’t turn down free stuff! Set your clock for 7:02 am on January 16, 2013 if you want to try and get a chance to be in the same Wake-up Club as me!
