project x zoneDid you just hear a choir of angels singing? I can explain it. Namco Bandai has just announced it will be bringing the strategic RPG Project X Zone to North America. Yes, I know! I’m just as shocked as you are!

See, the thing about Project X Zone is that three major companies are involved. The game was developed by Banpresto and Monolith Soft and published by Namco Bandai in Japan, but featured oodles of Namco Bandai, Capcom and Sega characters. There are cameos from games like .hack, Darkstalkers, Devil May Cry, Mega Man Legends, Resident Evil, Rival Schools, Sakura Wars, Space Channel 5, Street Fighter, Tales of Vesperia, Tekken, Valkyria Chronicles, Xenosaga and more. It’s a lot to take in and it means agreements have to be made. Fortunately, they apparently were because we’re getting Project X Zone in Q2 2013.

Here’s how the onslaught of fan favorites is explained. Project X Zone‘s world has a time/space rift above it, allowing people from many different worlds to slip through. This means both heroes and villains have slipped through the cracks. That naturally means trouble. So, players are fighting with the good guys against the bad guys and will hopefully come to a point where everyone can be sent home, the rift can be sealed and the world can be saved.

Watch one of the almost obscenely long Japanese Project X Zone trailers to get a better idea of how it will all work and look. Skip ahead to the one minute mark to start seeing actual gameplay footage.

Yes, this is definitely a 3DS game to get excited about and I’m tempted to say that it even makes up for Namco Bandai not localizing Tales of Innocence. Thanks Namco Bandai, and take your time working on this for us – we’re willing to wait for perfection!
