So I’m about to pop on to my Vita, play a few rounds of Jet Pack Joyride before bed and maybe see if I have any messages when boom! It hits me. Vita firmware 2.05 is now available and if I want anything to do with any PlayStation Network features, I’m going to update my system. You know, because Sony says. This is some stealthy update! There wasn’t a blog or tweet to give us a heads up. You’d have expected something, seeing as how this update is mandatory and there is no getting out of it.
Unfortunately, Vita firmware 2.05 is no big deal. There are no spectacular changes. It’s all behind-the-scenes stuff that just makes the system and software more stable. I’m sure it’s a good thing in general, but it’s a tad disappointing to be faced with a mandatory update and know nothing special will come of it.
On the plus side, the Vita firmware 2.05 update doesn’t take long to perform. It took me about seven minutes to download it, and my internet speed is only about average. Less than a minute later and it was completely installed. It was no big deal and my Vita is working as well as it ever did. In fact, I was surprised. I don’t think I’ve seen a Vita update install that fast.
So there you go! Enjoy your new Vita firmware 2.05 update. Use that brief period of time when you’re downloading and installing it as a moment of reflection. Perhaps even think back over the good times you’ve had with the system in 2012 and the adventures to come in 2013. Oh, who am I kidding. Stare at that bar like I am, willing it to fill faster with Mind Power so you can get back to doing whatever it was you wanted to do. There are games to play!
