Pikmin 3 is going to come out on the WiiU, but other than that, we don’t know a lot about it other than seeing some screenshots, some gameplay videos, and knowing it will be released in the first quarter of 2013. We have no word on whole the story, features of the game, or how exactly the game is going to utilize the Gamepad. Well, scratch that, we know a few things. For one thing, there are two new kinds of pikmin in Pikmin 3, rock pikmin and albino pikmin, and now we know a little bit on how the Wii U tablet will function in game.
Shigeru Miyamoto announced to investors that Pikmin 3 will enable you to play Pikmin 3 on the tablet while your wife/mom/other family relative is using the TV. The Announcement was meant for investors, but in all honesty, any kind of feature announcement for a game, especially one that’s been kept under wraps for so long, is an improvement to the little information that we have to go by right now.
I assume Miyamoto mentioned this feature to cater to investors, and that’s fine, as long as the Wii U is being branded as a family friendly console. I could see why he would tell the investors something that would pertain to them. But seriously Miyamoto, if you’re going to mention Pikmin 3, could you at least hint at some other more interesting features, other than the fact that I can play it while my spouse is watching Game of Thrones? Well, I’d probably drop my Wii U for Game of Thrones, but that’s besides the point.
Pikmin is one of the few Nintendo IPs that still resonates with the hardcore fanbase. With the game being released sometime this quarter, would it hurt Nintendo to at least mention something new for the few hardcore fans the company has left? Perhaps I’m just getting impatient, but we haven’t heard a lot about Pikmin 3 since E3 last year. For now, I’m just going to have to be content with knowing that I can play Pikmin 3 while the Big Bang Theory is on TV.
