It’s almost Valentine’s Day again, which means you really should have your gift ready. Seriously, you bought it right? Don’t worry if you didn’t as GamerTell has you covered once again with a list of five of the best, recently released items that would make awesome geeky Valentine’s Day gifts for gamers. I’ve come up with five potential solutions for your lack-of-gift problem that are gender neutral and perfect for any relationship level. I’ve got pricy and cheap gift ideas to sort though and don’t worry – no one has to know how much you did or didn’t spend on your sweetheart.
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Hear me out, because this strategic RPG set during two wars is far more romantic than you’d ever expect. As I’ve mentioned in other articles, there’s a dating sim element to the game as the warriors can become friends or lovers with each other should they spend a lot of time fighting alongside each other. As a result, players get to witness conversations between people and eventually see then fall in love. How sweet! If your sweetie already has a 3DS, the game is $39.99, or you can get the Fire Emblem: Awakening 3DS bundle for $199.99. I’d say it could be one of the best geeky Valentine’s Day gifts ever and I’d certainly love to get it, if I didn’t already have it.
500GB PS3 Instant Game Collection Bundle
The 500GB PS3 Instant Game Collection Bundle is one of the geeky Valentine’s Day gifts that keeps on giving, and it better for $299.99. This white PS3 comes with a 500GB hard drive, a DualShock 3 controller and a one year subscription to PlayStation Plus so the love of your life will get free games for a year and have a hard drive that’s guaranteed to hold all of them without any problems. It’s really quite lovely. Not to mention that the Instant Game Collection is quite a boon to PS3 owners, as it includes tons of fantastic games like LittleBigPlanet and inFamous, with more added every week. Every time he or she turns on that PS3, you’ll come to mind.
Portal 2 Companion Cube Ice Tray
I’m almost hesitant to recommend this gift, because it will result in a something of a reenaction of one of the most tragic events in recent gaming history, but I’m going for it anyway. The Portal 2 Companion Cube Ice Tray is one of the best geeky Valentine’s Day gifts someone could give or get. On the plus side, you could say you’re giving your loved one the opportunity to fill their fridge with companion cubes that will lovingly cool their drinks. On the other hand, every time someone actually drops a few of these icy cubes in their drink, it’ll be like dropping their first companion cube into the incinerator all over again. What a dilemna. But then, as fellow GamerTell editor Jeremy says, “You can refill it with your tears.” It’s $12.99 at ThinkGeek.
Pixel Heart Heat Changing Mug
I’d say the Pixel Heart Heat Changing Mug is the perfect gift for people who might have just gotten into a new relationship. It isn’t too expensive at $11.99 at ThinkGeek. It isn’t overly romantic or geeky, so you won’t make any faux pas. Most important is that it’s cool and has the iconic heart symbol that is synonymous with video game health. I think it’s a fun gift that is timeless, so keep it in mind throughout 2013 in case decide not to make it one of your geeky Valentine’s Day gifts.
Know what’s really awesome? Limited edition t-shirts. There are lots of great sites out there that offer fan-designed shirts for a limited amount of time for people to buy. The shirts are typically available for only a day or two at a certain price, then could be gone forever. Well, Tee Magnet keeps track of all of them. It shows all the major, limited edition shirt sites, offers thumbnails of each one’s latest shirt and says how long that shirt will still be sold. This Valentine’s Day, you can make your loved one’s day by grabbing a unique shirt that probably only a few hundred other people around the world will also own, like the My Precious shirt sold by TeeFury on February 11, 2013. One of the shirts shown on Tee Magnet cost between $10 and $12 and are available in men’s and women’s sizes, which makes shopping easy.
Those five potential geeky Valentine’s Day gifts should get the creative juices flowing when it comes to thinking up a gift for someone you love. You could also check through the backlog of GamerTell’s recent reviews, see what’s gotten good reviews lately and use that to help with your last minute shopping. Or, you could always just grab your loved one a PSN, XBLA or Nintendo eShop gift card. That way, they can head to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live or the 3DS/Wii U eShop and get whatever they want.
