Sony is throwing a sale on Twisted Metal games this week in celebration of the one-year anniversary of Twisted Metal on PS3. From today until next Tuesday’s PlayStation Store update, the PS3 version of Twisted Metal is selling for $29.99. You can also pick up the original Twisted Metal and Twisted Metal 2 for $4.99 each. Rounding out the sale is Twisted Metal Black for $7.99. If you want to buy all these games at once, there will be a bundle available for $39.99.
$40 is not a bad price to own digital versions of all the major Twisted Metal releases. If anything, you’ll get the chance to see what made the series so popular in the PS1 and PS2 days. Afterwards, you’ll be able to definitively say whether or not Twisted Metal 2 truly is the best game in the series.
My memories of the first two Twisted Metal games are pretty fuzzy. However, I distinctly remember how intriguing the endings were. Twisted Metal 2‘s endings were pretty messed up as Calypso blatantly twisted the wishes of the winner into something they most certainly didn’t want. He did this in Twisted Metal Black to an extent, but most winners got exactly what they asked for. The individual stories in Black were also really dark and pretty disturbing. No other game features a kid riding around in a death-dealing taxi cab that’s driven by his dead remote-controlled father. Not creepy enough? How about playing as a former boxer whose face was mutilated by a plastic surgeon that lost money on his fight? No matter how you feel about the actual gameplay, Twisted Metal will go down as having some of the most disturbing short stories in gaming history.
