Warframe, the upcoming cooperative multiplayer game from Digital Extremes, has been in closed beta ever since it launched last year. We’ve spent a bit of time with the game since then and are pretty darn impressed with what we’ve experienced so far. If you want to play this game in all its shooting and slicing glory, you’ll get your chance starting this Friday, February 15.
From the 15th-19th Warframe will be in open beta. That means anyone who registers for the game will be able to download the client and begin playing without a beta key. Once you get in, you’ll also be able to purchase a special weapon called the Braton Vandal that will only be around for a limited time. You’ll only need one credit to buy this weapon, and you won’t have to spend any real money to get it either. Here’s what the weapon looks like.
Warframe will be free-to-play when it eventually releases. It’ll make money by selling credits that can be used to purchase things such as weapons and new Warframes. Credits can also be earned by taking on the various missions the game offers. The missions require you to do specific things such as eliminate a specific target, steal an artifact or kill everything you see. If you have a few friends playing with you, these missions are a lot more enjoyable. Your Warframe can be completely different from your friends. This opens the door to a lot more strategies and special effects. Like I said back in December, Warframe plays like a more robust version of Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer mode. That’s a very good thing.
