Sony’s really going above and beyond in an attempt to make its systems indie-friendly. We recently saw Retro City Rampage, Knytt Underground and Big Sky Infinity appears as PS3 and Vita games, and now Hotline Miami is joining them. In April 2013, people will be able to shoot strange people in crazy masks while wondering why on the really big or pretty small screen
The PS3 and Vita version of Hotline Miami will pretty much be the exact same game as you remember. It’s just moving to a different platform. I’d be tempted to say it as access to a wider audience, but I don’t know how valid that is as it ended up being insanely popular when it was released on the PC. Let’s compromise and say that the port will lead to more attention.
Unfortunately, Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital didn’t tell us a lot of things about the Hotline Miami ports that we need to know. For starters, information about additional content would have been lovely. I’m sure we all want to know if the PS3 or Vita version could be bigger or better. With the OLED screen, I’m guessing the Vita version will end up looking the best. We also need to know if there will be a cross-buy promotion. If I can get copies for my PS3 and Vita for the same price, this would be a day-one purchase for me and I’m sure many of you feel the same way.
As for whether or not Hotline Miami is worth getting excited about, I couldn’t tell you. I meant to grab it when it was on sale for $4.99 during the last Steam sale, but forgot. It’s not the kind of game I usually play and there’s no demo, so I never took the $9.99 plunge.
