Okay, when I look at the Shin Megami Tensei IV 3DS XL, I see a monster’s face. He has a beard, manibles and bunny ears. He’s surrounded by his buddies on either side. I think his dad, or maybe his mom, is on the right standing up. The matching ears are a dead giveaway. Also, I think the creatures immediately to his right is a happy zombie who just threw a football through some goal posts.

Or maybe the Shin Megami Tensei IV 3DS XL’s main image is of an upside-down bat riding on a tarantula’s head?

I don’t know. There’s a definite design Atlus had in mind, I’m sure, but the Shin Megami Tensei IV 3DS XL is essentially one big Rorshach test. It’s a your mileage may vary situation at its best and you’ll see what you want to see when you look at this system. Perhaps you’ll see iconic Shin Megami Tensei monsters. Maybe you’ll think the second character from the left looks like a squawking chicken.

The Shin Megami Tensei IV 3DS XL, or LL if you prefer, is a Japan-exclusive system. It will be released May 23, 2013 and come with the game pre-installed. The price hasn’t been determined yet, but this will be a limited edition system so if you’re interested, don’t hesistate. Just remember if you do import it, that it is region-locked. It will only play 3DS games from Japan. It’ll play DS games from anywhere, however.
