Gears of War: Judgment is already appearing on torrent sites well before its March 19, 2013 release date. According to Eurogamer, the copy is complete. Now it is time to remind you that Microsoft will take “vigorous action” against anyone caught playing this game before it releases. So if a lifetime ban from Xbox Live is worth it to you to play Gears of War: Judgment a few weeks early, knock yourself out.
Microsoft is also busy finding online videos that spoil campaign details. Of course, Gears of War: Judgment is a prequel, so I’m not expecting any huge revelations here. We know neither Augustus Cole or Damon Baird is going to die. It wouldn’t surprise me if everyone else on Kilo Squad either dies or goes to prison. Sadly, this has become a standard occurrence with big name console titles. Halo 4, Gears of War 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 all leaked well ahead of their release dates in various forms of completion.
In an anticlimactic development, Epic has released a video updating some of the new changes to multiplayer. Team Deathmatch, a somewhat controversial addition to Gears 3, is coming back. Frag grenades are sticky now. There are beacon grenades that let you see through walls, and stim grenades that increase soldiers health. Also, you can now hurl these grenades without a lengthy windup animation. Huzzah! There’s going to be a Free-For-All for players good enough to face off solo. I’m not good at all, so I’ll continue hiding behind my more skilled teammates, thank you.
Overrun is the new mode I’m most looking forward to. COG soldiers must hold a strategic point while the Locust horde attacks. The mode is class-based, with teamwork essential to winning the day. The two teams switch sides after the first round. It’s a fusion of Horde mode and Beast mode. Horde was one of the main things that kept me playing Gears 3, so I’m excited about this new form of gameplay.
So far, Gears of War: Judgment is looking like a bigger leap than the one from Gears 2 to Gears 3, even though it’s a prequel. Don’t try to wrap your head around it, just get ready to kill some Locust March 19.
