Every PS4 will come bundled with a headset. This fact was revealed in a PlayStation Blog post by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida. Yoshida wrote all about the new DualShock 4 controller and the capabilities it will bring to the PS4 console. The headset will be connected to the controller through a built-in headset jack. The DualShock 4 also has a speaker that will play sound effects at appropriate times. If headphones are plugged in, sound effects will be pushed through the headset instead.
Throughout the entire PS3 life cycle, Sony never included a headset in the box. Any headset you wanted to use needed to be purchased separately. They either had to connect via Bluetooth or USB. By embracing a wired headset, Sony is taking a page right out of Microsoft’s playbook. At the same time, adding headsets to every PS4 is essential to fully utilize the console’s social features.
PS4 owners will be able to upload their gameplay sessions to Ustream, so allowing them to easily communicate with viewers is very important. Included headsets will also help make sure PS4 players are more chatty on the PlayStation Network. Silence in multiplayer matches on PSN are common due to the number of people that don’t care to go through menus in order to set up a headset.
If Sony includes universal chat on the PS4, this headset will have even more value.
