Activision is publishing a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game this summer. TMNT: Out of the Shadows will be released on Xbox Live, PSN and PC. The announcement was reported by Digital Spy who also provided the game’s debut trailer. Details are very scarce, but there are some things we can tell you about.

TMNT: Out of the Shadows is being developed by Red Fly Studio. This is the developer behind games such as Thor: God of Thunder, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and the unsuccessful Kickstarter game Bad Planet. Red Fly is creating the new TMNT game with four-player online co-op in mind. It’s a beat’em up title with an emphasis on combos. The animation is somewhat reminiscent of the TMNT series that airs on Nickelodeon.

The last downloadable TMNT game on consoles was TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled. This game was a re-release published by Ubisoft. It’s currently no longer available to download in the United States due to licensing issues. It lasted around two years on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

I grew up on TMNT, so I’m naturally interested in any game that stars those four bodacious bros. At the same time, Activision’s involvement makes me a little skeptical about this game’s quality. Red Fly Studio also doesn’t fill me with much confidence. Prove me wrong guys, prove me wrong.
