mint x white 3ds xl llJapan gets the best 3DS colors and I am jealous. The latest are Mint x White 3DS XLs and they’re beautiful. I know, I’ve always been a proponent of the pale pink or purple 3DS color schemes, but I was wrong. Mint x White 3DS XLs trump all. Naturally, they’re currently Japan-exclusive systems, which hurts. Adding salt to that fresh wound is the fact that they’re also launching alongside the Japan-exclusive game Tomodachi Collection: New Life.

Why do you do this to us, Nintendo?!

Ahem, anyways, these Mint x White 3DS XLs will usher in spring in Japan, as both will be released on April 18, 2013. The one with the solid mint-colored lid will be released alone for ¥18,900 (~$197). The more festive Tomodachi Collection: New Life edition 3DS XL with the mint-colored speech balloons will be ¥22,800 (~$237), to compensate for having the game pre-installed on the system’s SD card.

If you’re looking to grab an import 3DS for playing all of those lovely region-locked games that will never leave Japan, the Tomodachi Collection: New Life Mint x White 3DS XL could be the system to grab. To start, the price isn’t that bad. A 3DS XL normally costs $199, so there’s no huge markup. Also, it already comes with Tomodachi Collection: New Leaf, the life sim starring Miis. Odds are, it won’t be localized and will remain trapped in Japan, just like the original Tomodachi Collection. You’ll get a unique system and game. You can’t beat that.

Of course, you may want to wait until E3 2013 to make a decision. Nintendo could surprise us and decide to release Tomodachi Collection: New Life outside of Japan. Since that’s a text-heavy title, you’d probably be better off getting it in your native language. Not to mention the standard Mint x White 3DS XL could always make a worldwide debut eventually, just like the Pink x White 3DS XL before it.
