Trying to log into the PlayStation Network right now? Good luck. Odds are, you’ll be trapped in the offline abyss. Yes, there is an unexpected outage affecting most customers. Some people are reporting they can get online and use services as normal, but the general consensus is, the PlayStation Network is down.
The PlayStation Network went down not long ago. It’s been less than an hour for people, so before 6pm CST on March 15, 2013, you were probably able to go about your daily business. However, it is for the most part out.
The good news is, Sony is aware of the issue. The official PSN Status page lists the PlayStation Network as offline. An announcement has also been made via the official PlayStation Twitter account. That means people are likely already at work remedying the issue.
In the meantime, all we can do is wait. It’ll be tragic if the PlayStation Network is down all weekend. I mean, with God of War: Ascension debuting this week, I’m sure a lot of people were planning to use Saturday and Sunday to get into the multiplayer. Still, this has only just happened and it’s best not to jump to conclusions. Sony knows something is wrong. We have to just let the technicians do their work and fix things.
If you want a resource to check during this trying time, I recommend Is the PSN down? It’s a website where people can report their findings and is usually pretty accurate when it comes to determining if the service is offline or online. Also, bookmark the official PSN Status page I shared earlier. Following @PlayStation on Twitter is a big help. Just relax for a few hours. Enjoy offline play. Only start panicking if the PlayStation Network isn’t back online by midnight.
