I’ve expressed my skepticism about Star Trek: The Video Game before. I’m not confident and more than a little worried about the final product. However, I am head over heals with Namco Bandai’s ad campaign. A new commercial for the game was released today, March 29, 2013 and it is glorious. Of course, anything with William Shatner in it is bound to be pure gold.
I don’t want to spoil it for you, but here’s what makes this Star Trek: The Video Game ad so magnificent. The enemy in the game is the Gorn, which appeared in the classic episode “Arena.” In the episode, there’s the best (worst) fight scene in the history of the series between Kirk and the Gorn. For this ad, Namco Bandai not only got William Shatner to appear and promote the game, but has a man in an original Gorn costume hyping it up with him.
But enough exposition! Let’s go ahead and watch what will probably be one of the best video game commercials this year. Here’s the Star Trek: The Video Game ad.
I had to watch that a few times, it was so awesome. They really need to make more video game commercials like this. I’m still not wowed by Star Trek: The Video Game, but Shatner was just perfect here.
