Nintendo 3DS Direct ahoy! Okay, I was wrong on Monday when I assumed this presentation would just be about Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. I guess what they say about “assuming” is wrong. Not only were there new announcements during the presentation, there were ones not related to the 3DS!

I’m talking, of course, about EarthBound. Forget new 3DS games for a second. The Nintendo 3DS Direct revealed that EarthBound will be released on the Wii U Virtual Console in 2013. It sounds like it’ll be out towards the end of 2013, but still. That’s something to get really excited about. Jealous 3DS owners will have to make do with The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages or Seasons on their eShop on May 30, 2013. I guess this is to get people excited about the Wii U Virtual Console official launch next week on April 25, 2013. Balloon Fight, Excitebike, F-Zero, Mario Bros., Punch Out, Super Mario World and Super Metroid will be the first games released, with other NES, SNES, N64 and GBA games coming later.

Also, the Nintendo 3DS Direct revealed we’re getting another, former Japan exclusive 3DS. The Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS XL is coming to North America and Europe. It will be out June 9 and 14, 2013, the same day the games are released in both regions, have the game preinstalled on its 4GB memory card and cost $219.99.

I’ll go ahead and list the games that were announced and discussed at the Nintendo 3DS Direct. I put release dates after the title, if the games have one, so you know when to expect them.

  • Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale – 2013
  • Bravely Default: Flying Fairy – 2014
  • Bugs vs Tanks – 2013
  • Game & Wario (Wii U) – June 23, 2013
  • New Legend of Zelda set in A Link to the Past world – Winter 2013
  • Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move – May 9, 2013
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team – August 11, 2013
  • New Mario Party – Winter 2013
  • Pikmin 3 (Wii U) – August 4, 2013
  • Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy – 2014
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV – July 16, 2013
  • The Starship Damray – 2013
  • New Yoshi’s Island Installment – TBA

So, so many new games and announcements shown off! I’m amazed and impressed. Especially since this all happened so close to E3 2013. Perhaps Nintendo will focus on Wii U games then? Anyways, I’m quite excited about Bravely Default, the new Mario & Luigi and Shin Megami Tensei IV. What are you now waiting for?
