Nickelodeon released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run yesterday evening in the Apple App Store for $1.99. This is the first TMNT game to be released on the platform, and it’s facing some stiff competition. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run is an endless runner, and like we’ve seen with Tap Rocket, and endless runner has to be truly special to stand out. TMNT has the brand working in its favor, but is this game any good?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run is a genuinely fun game. The allure of playing as the iconic turtles may have something to do with that, but Nickelodeon clearly didn’t just slap something together to make a quick buck. Instead of merely running and dodging, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run incorporates acrobatics and combat. There’s a real sense of flow as you jump off an enemy’s head, run across billboards and collect green orbs. The orbs are very important since they act as fuel for your run. If the green meter runs out, your turtle will be kidnapped by Kraang in a UFO.
There are in-game purchases that are required to get upgrades to your gear, weapons and boosts. You also have to spend 3600 coins to purchase each of the remaining three turtles after choosing your favorite. Acquiring the necessary coins to buy all the turtles will take a long time. I wish at least a couple were unlocked from the start.
Anyway, check out our gameplay video below. If you like what you see, head over to the Apple App Store and spend a couple bucks.
