Danger! Danger PS3 and Xbox 360 owners who are playing Dragon’s Dogma or Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen! Capcom accidentally sent out a game patch that could very well ruin your characters’ lives. The latest patch has this little big that has been causing a number of people to experience corrupted game saves. Which means all their progress is gone in an instant, just because they did something they thought would improve your game experience.

Capcom recommends immediately backing up your Dragon’s Dogma or Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen save files just in case. It also suggests playing offline in the meantime, to avoid being prompted to download the offending patch. Currently, there is no repair for game saves corrupted by the patch and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just gone. The only thing you can do now is avoid the patch until Capcom releases a new one that won’t erradicate your hard work.

Hopefully, this news comes before anyone reading booted up Dragon’s Dogma or Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen and started playing. Grab a USB drive or save to the cloud now. If you didn’t get this message in time, then I’m so sorry. I hope you didn’t lose a lot of progress and backed up your save recently so you didn’t lose too much progress.

Something like this gets me thinking. With games like Destiny and SimCity, not to mention the latest next Xbox rumors, we’re seeing more and more online-only games. What happens if one of those games were to get a patch like this, which would wipe out thousands, maybe even millions, of people’s save files. It makes the future look a little bleaker, doesn’t it? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to back up my Dragon’s Dogma character Arissa to the cloud!
