Ace Patrol Firaxis Games has been on a mobile roll lately. It recently released a fun free-to-play strategy game called Haunted Hollow. Yesterday evening, Firaxis struck again with Sid Meier‘s Ace Patrol. Ace Patrol is another turn-based strategy game that puts you in control of World War I fighter pilots. If that’s not enough to interest you, perhaps knowing Sid Meier served as the primary programmer for this game will.

Ace Patrol is also a free-to-play game. I know F2P as a whole gets a bad rap, but Ace Patrol doesn’t beat you over the head with it. You can spend between $0.99 and $3.99 to acquire the German, American and French campaigns. You can also purchase Aces for $0.99 each. The Aces are special plane skins that also come with a special ability. Lastly, there are “improvements” that contain items that instantly repair planes or heal injured pilots.

The strategy part of this game can get pretty involved. Your pilots have different maneuvers they can perform to maximize their effectiveness in combat. You’ll have to choose whether you want to bank, dive, loop, climb and more at every turn. The key is to get behind enemy pilots at a high altitude to take them out quickly. You’ll also be tasked with destroying convoys and protecting your interests.

As pilots gain experience, they also learn new maneuvers. They can also be granted special skills such as improved accuracy.

If you’re up for some quick dogfights, check this game out.
