It has been revealed that the “Red Son” Injustice: Gods Among Us DLC will be made available to purchase next week. The DLC adds Soviet Russia themed costumes and missions and was originally given to those who pre-ordered the title at GameStop, EB Games and Game stores worldwide.
The DLC pack is based off Mark Millar’s depictions of classic DC characters in his short comic series Superman: Red Son. The series showed an alternate DC history in which Superman’s rocket lands in Ukraine farmland, resulting in Superman being brought up with Soviet ideals. While Superman, Wonder Woman and Solomon Grundy Red Son costumes are included in the DLC pack, the beloved Soviet version of Batman is nowhere to be seen. But never say never, as the official Tweet that announced the release of the Red Son pack also asked what other Red Son characters fans would like to see in Injustice: Gods Among Us .
Red Son is just one of many pieces of purchasable and pre-order exclusive downloadable content that has been released for Injustice: Gods Among Us. There’s been costume packs inspired by DC’s “New 52″ reboot, a Black Lantern Batman costume with “zombie mode”, a Flashpoint pack, a Teen Titans skin pack and even cult classic Lobo has been released as an additional playable character.
Call me old fashioned but such a large volume of individual DLC releases puts me off buying a game completely. I’d love to have a crack at Injustice: Gods Among Us as I’m a fan our DC inside and outside the comics. But knowing that the game I’m playing only contains a proportion of all available content, even if the majority of that content are simple skins, leaves me feeling like I’ve been cheated.
However, Injustice: Gods Among Us seems to be doing well, so at least I’ll have the “complete edition” to look forward to!
Did you manage to get your hands on the Red Son DLC the first time around? Is it worth buying separately? What alternative DC universe characters and skins would you like to see pop up in later DLC packs? For me it has to be Apollo and The Midnighter from The Authority. Make it happen DC!
Injustice: Gods Among Us is available now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U.
