playstation plus july 2013Man, that June 2013 PlayStation Plus update was amazing. We ended up getting Uncharted 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Saints Row The Third, Machinarium, LittleBigPlanet Karting, Orc Attack and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward. It was huge. Angels cried. It made people stop going on about how much better the European PlayStation Plus is. Too bad it won’t last. The July 2013 PlayStation Plus freebies have been revealed and, well, they’re no June 2013 freebies.

It isn’t that the July 2013 additions to the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Library are bad. On the contrary. I’ve played four of the five games that will be joining the collection, or at least variations of them, and can say I enjoyed them all. It just doesn’t compare to the games we’ve gotten in the past.

I mean, look at them. This month, PlayStation Plus owners get Battlefield 3 (PS3), Dokuro (Vita), Jet Set Radio (PS3), Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee HD (PS3) and Metal Slug XX (PSP). I especially love Dokuro, but only Battlefield 3 really holds up to what us spoiled gamers now expect from PlayStation Plus.

On the bright side, we can always look to the PlayStation Store 2013 Summer Blast sale to make up the slack. PlayStation Plus members get a substantial, additional discount on all the sale games. So it does make this lackluster update easier to bear.

Just make sure you quick head to the PlayStation Store today and claim Deus Ex: Human Revolution if you haven’t already. It will leave the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection when the PlayStation Store updates on July 2, 2013. Joe Danger 2: The Movie leaves next on July 9, 2013, then The Cave on July 16, Germinator on July 23 and finally Virtue’s Last Reward on July 30.

What I’m really concerned about is Silent Hill: Book of Memories. It’s going to be $7.50 for PlayStation Plus members when it goes on sale as part of that 2013 Summer Blast next week. But, what if it becomes a PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection game in a few months? I don’t know whether to buy it, or not!

  1. Go on, just buy it. You’ll kick yourself if you don’t. I don’t think we really know how support Sony are going to give the PS3 PSN+, when the PS4 gets released. What if it doesn’t get put up as a freebie, bet you never thought of that ;0) lol

    • Then I’ll wait for a used copy to show up at my local Disc Replay. :D I have a ton of credit there.

… You’re right though. I’ll probably cave and buy it. It’s only $7.50!
