Grand Theft Auto Online

Grand Theft Auto 5 will have a multiplayer component, but it won’t be ready to go at launch. Today, Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto Online, a separate download that will be released on October 1, 2013. GTA 5‘s single-player game has been dated for September 17. The wait won’t be that long, but future owners of the game will be happy to know GTA Online will be free with every retail copy of GTA 5

GTA Online will offer enormous amounts of freedom. You won’t be shuffled from deathmatch to deathmatch while waiting in lobbies. 16 players can jump into Los Santos and partake in a lot of different activities. Yes, the traditional competitive multiplayer matches are there, but you can also partake in less bloody affairs. For instance, you can spend money you earn on an apartment where you and your friends can congregate. You can also buy a garage and store all your customized vehicles. When your done flaunting your cash, you can make even more by pulling off heists, sticking up liquor stores and participating in races.

Speaking of races, Rockstar also created a match editor. You’ll be able to customize races and deathmatches to your liking. Your creations can also be shared with other members of the Rockstar community.

GTA Online will be a persistent world that Rockstar will keep updated regularly. You could step in one day and find totally new experiences waiting for you. Check out the trailer for GTA Online below.
