Diablo III fans irked by the porting of the game to the PS3, PS4 and Xbox 360 will find Blizzard Entertainment has wormed its way back into their good graces at Gamescom 2013. The developer has used the convention to pull the cloak off of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, the first Diablo III expansion pack.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls reintroduces Malthael, from Diablo II, as the Angel of Death. As expected from someone carrying such a moniker, he’s up to no good. He is in possession of Prime Evil, thanks to his acquisition of the Black Soulstone, and it is up to a legion of brave Barbarians, Demon Hunters, Monks, Witch Doctors, Wizards and Crusaders. Oh, yes, Diablo III introduces a new character class, a group of Crusaders who are tanks with battle magic and a burning desire to fight evil.
Naturally, an expansion is nothing without new equipment, and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will deliver on that front as well. There will be more quests, more monsters, noew items to create, more spells and skills, more equipment (including legendaries) and of course a higher level cap. Get ready to grind your way up to level 70. Blizzard even has two new game modes coming, called Loot Runs and Nephalem Trials, which means people will have more to do after beating the main game and the new expansion quests.
No word yet on when exactly Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will be released. Blizzard only just announced it at Gamescom 2013, after all. Hopefully, we’ll see it before 2013 ends. In the meantime, watch the first trailer, and see if that takes the edge off.
