GTA V is a huge success. In less than a week, it managed to make over $1 billion. Right now, tons of people are taking in the landscapes, finding easter eggs and taking pictures with each character’s smartphone. Interestingly enough, the growing popularity of selfies (or self portraits) in the real world have spilled over into GTA V as well. If you head over to the Rockstar Social Club Snapmatic page for GTA V, you’ll find a treasure trove of selfies taken all across Los Santos and beyond.
These selfies are a great way to see the variety of locations in GTA V. Some selfies have beautiful mountain ranges in the background, some feature vast forests and others showcase urban life. You’ll also see pictures of people relishing in their violent crimes by taking selfies next to dead bodies or various acts of destruction they’ve caused. There’s something slightly disturbing about wanting a keepsake after a murderous rampage, but it’s something many players (including myself) have done.
Selfies are going to get even more interesting once GTA Online launches. Assuming we’ll still have access to the camera, the number of group selfies is going to explode. Think about it, you and your online gang of criminals can document all your crimes and immortalize them in the cloud.
All in all, I’m having a blast checking out everyone’s selfies online. It makes me want to go out and explore more of the world. Go out there and take some pictures. The community will thank you for it.
