Eight years after the Dreamcast was released in Japan, Sega released a Dreamcast watch. It was beautiful. It was detailed. It was freaking expensive. The watch debuted in September, 2006, and it cost about $130. Which, some fans would argue is an amount worth paying. Those who love Sega and its Dreamcast are a dedicated bunch.
Besides, the Dreamcast watch was actually shaped like the system. To see the time, you actually had to pop open the disc tray. That’s totally neat. Besides, it was water resistant, so it would never have to leave your wrist.
It was so popular that the Dreamcast watch was actually rereleased in June, 2013. This time, however, the stainless steel watch was limited to 100 pieces. And you can own one for $399.
One of the Dreamcast watches has appeared on eBay. There’s no bidding allowed. The seller just wants $399 for it. Which I’m sure makes you wish you had been at Play-Asia the second the watches were actually released, because $100-something seems like a total bargain now. At least the shipping is free.
In case this is striking you as ridiculous, think of it like this. As crazy as a $399 Dreamcast watch may sound, it’s actually the cheapest one on eBay. Another one costs over $562, and doesn’t even include free shipping.
