I know it’s the time of year where we’re in a spooky mindset, but let’s take a moment to let love surround us. Aksys wants to be sure the men of Hakuoki have wormed their way into your hearts, and have just announced Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi. That’s a localization of Hakuoki Junsouroku, the PS3 installment in the series. We don’t know exactly when the first console installment of lovey-dovey, supernatural warriors will appear, but at least it’s on its way.
For those worried because they’ve already played Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom on the PSP or Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi on the 3DS, know that Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi will have new content that will make it worth hearing the story again. While the base game involves the standard Hakuoki storyline we’ve come to know and love, there’s a whole new series of stories that takes the familiar characters from the original tale and put them in a modern setting. Not to mention, the console version should look and sound better.
Also notable is the fact that Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi will be the first installment in the series with DLC. Aksys is planning on releasing more artwork, character outfits, and stories that people can pay to play. If you need more content from these heartfelt warriors, you’ll be able to get it. If you don’t want it, you’ll be fine without it. The original story is quite large on its own, without even factoring in the new alternate reality story with the warriors and Chizuru in high school.
