pokemon x meowstic cat pokemon
Pokemon X and Y are a pretty momentous occasion in the world of Pokemon, but not in the way you’d expect. With the addition of Espurr and Meowstic to the array of monsters, we now have 10 cat Pokemon. These 10 are directly based on cats. I’m not counting Mew or Mewtwo, mind you. They’re cat-like, but the 10 I’m talking about are undoubtably or questionably kitties.

Which means, if someone wanted to, they could create an all-cat team. Except, a cat Pokemon team may not be the smartest idea. I’ve been going through the available kittehs, and some are clearly superior to others. If you want to be a crazy cat trainer, you have to know what’s out there and to expect from your monsters.

So, here’s a rather rudimentary list of cat Pokemon. I’ll go over each one, mentioning what stats it excels in, a good nature, and its best learned moves. Then, you can decide for yourself if one is or isn’t worth adding to your team.

meowth cat pokemonMeowth
Type: Normal
Best Stat(s): Speed
Worst Stat(s): Defense
Recommended Nature: Timid, if you want to focus on its speed. Avoid Hasty, as it will make Meowth’s already weak defense stat even weaker. If you want to try upping its Defense, go with Relaxed.
Best Learned Moves: Slash, Pay Day, Night Slash, and Faint Attack. It’s Attack stat is usually higher than its Sp.Atk stat, so focus on physical moves.

persian cat pokemonPersian
Type: Normal
Best Stat(s): Speed
Worst Stat(s): Defense
Recommended Nature: Like Meowth, shoot for Timid, but avoid Hasty, if you want to focus on Speed. If you want to bolster Defense, go with Relaxed.
Best Learned Moves: Power Gem, Night Slash, Faint Attack, and Swift

skitty cat pokemonSkitty
Type: Normal
Best Stat(s): HP and Speed
Worst Stat(s): Sp. Atk and Sp. Def
Recommended Nature: Adamant. Skitty learns a lot of physical attack moves, and this nature will up its attack.
Best Learned Moves: Double Edge, Faint Attack, Sing, and Wake-up Slap

delcatty cat pokemonDelcatty
Type: Normal
Best Stat(s): HP and Speed
Worst Stat(s): Sp. Atk and Sp. Def
Recommended Nature: Again, stick with Adamant. Delcatty works best as a fast, physical attacker.
Best Learned Moves: Delcatty doesn’t learn any moves. Wait to evolve a Skitty with a Moon Stone until it has learned Double Edge at level 42. Then, hopefully have a Delcatty with Double Edge, Faint Attack, Sing, and Wake-up Slap.

glameow cat pokemonGlameow
Type: Normal
Best Stat(s): Speed
Worst Stat(s): Sp. Def
Recommended Nature: Adamant. It will bost Glameow’s attack, and lower its Sp.Atk.
Best Learned Moves: Slash, Sucker Punch, Faint Attack, and Fury Swipes.

purugly cat pokemonPurugly
Type: Normal
Best Stat(s): Speed, Attack
Worst Stat(s): Sp. Def
Recommended Nature: Adamant
Best Learned Moves: Body Slam, Slash, Faint Attack, and Hone Claws.

purrloin cat pokemon
Purrloin
Type: Dark
Best Stat(s): Speed
Worst Stat(s): Defense and Sp. Def
Recommended Nature: Adamant. Most of the attack moves Purrloin can learn will rely on the Attack stat, rather than the Sp. Atk stat. If you’re planning on using TMs to teach special attacks, then go with Naughty and let the Sp. Def take the hit.
Best Learned Moves: Night Slash, Sucker Punch, Slash, and Assurance.

liepard cat pokemonLiepard
Type: Dark
Best Stat(s): Speed
Worst Stat(s): Defense and Sp. Def
Recommended Nature: Adamant or Naughty
Best Learned Moves: Night Slash, Sucker Punch, Slash, and Assurance

espurr cat pokemonEspurr
Type: Psychic
Best Stat(s): Speed
Worst Stat(s): Attack
Recommended Nature: Modest. Espurr won’t be using any physical attacks, so jack up that Sp. Atk stat at the Attack stat’s expense.
Best Learned Moves: Confusion, Psybeam, Disarming Voice, Psyshock

meowstic cat pokemonMeowstic
Type: Psychic
Best Stat(s): Speed
Worst Stat(s): Attack
Recommended Nature: Modest
Best Learned Moves: This gets tricky, as male and female Meowstics learn different moves. I prefer the female’s moveset, as she’s more well-rounded. Males are more focused on psychic attacks. For males, go with Psychic, Miracle Eye, Disarming Voice and Psyshock. For females, go with Signal Beam, Psychic, Charge Beam, and Future Sight.
