Resogun PS4I’m thinking my purchase plans for the PS4 have changed. It’s entirely possible I don’t buy a single game at launch, because I won’t need to. The PS4 launch lineup offers five games that will be absolutely free. Two require a Playstation Plus subscription, but PS Plus is awesome. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t get it.

PS Plus members can pick up Contrast and Resogun for the low, low price of free. Contrast is a puzzle platformer in which the action shifts from 2D to 3D. I previewed it as part of our PlayStation 4 countdown. It looks unlike anything else I’ve played this year, and we play a lot of games around here.

Resogun is a shmup from Housemarque (Dead Nation, Super Stardust HD) that looks so, so pretty. I hear you, reader concerned about resolutions and fancy graphics. Are you really buying a $400 console to play a modernized version of Defender? In this case, I absolutely am. Fun is fun, friends, and this seems worthy of the effort needed to climb the leaderboards. Did I mention it is free?

Blacklight: Retribution is a free-to-play first-person shooter I’ve wanted to start on for a while, and I now have no excuse not to. There are a lot of customization options and all the multiplayer modes you expect, including deathmatch, king of the hill and capture the flag. There is no single player campaign, but these days many full retail shooters barely have a campaign.

Warframe has soldiers that can essentially be called space ninjas. That’s why we play video games right there. The Tenno are super warriors that battle all over space against baddies called the Grineer. Even though it’s free, you can pre-order it by Nov. 12 to get extra goodies. The Warframe Ultimate Fan Pack includes a Braton Rifle weapon skin, 50 Platinum and 20,000 Credits. You can order through Sony’s site, or the PS4 area in the PlayStation Store on your PS3.

DC Universe Online lets you don your very own garish costume and use superpowers to bust baddies across the world. Help Superman defend Metropolis, or help The Joker continue his dog chasing cars routine. You create your own hero or villain, but in PvP you can use your favorite DC heroes and villains. Unless your favorite is Hoppy The Marvel Bunny or something. I previewed some of the changes to DCUO here.

There are a bunch of great PS4 games to buy, but this is the first launch I’ve encountered with this much free stuff right away. The future is almost here, and it’s good to be a gamer.
