Ever since Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the MMO has been doing surprisingly well and has managed to redeem the series second foray into the MMO genre. The story and its excellent execution of quests has drawn in players, now numbering in the millions. And coming later this month, players can expect one massive patch to continue their exploration of Eorzea.
On December 17 Final Fantasy XIV will receive its 2.1 patch called A Realm Awoken. But this isn’t a simple patch that fixes bugs and adds a dash of content. Players will be receiving a lengthy new story quest that takes them to the massive Crystal Tower as well as dealing with the return of the Garlean Empire. This ancient tower hasn’t been seen for thousands of years until after the Calamity. It’s the adventurer’s job to figure out the reason for its mysterious reappearance as well as find some awesome loot. Even before they reach the tower, players will need to get through the Labyrinth of the Ancients filled with even more monsters and awesome items.
Along with the new locations and adventures, players will have access to houses in each of Final Fantasy XIV’s three city states. Yep, your character can build a home with a variety of ways to customize it. A new PvP arena called the Wolf’s Den will also become available. If your appetite for questing isn’t satisfied by the new main quests, Square Enix also added the Duty Roulette. This feature allows you to pick up random instanced dungeons, trials and guildhests once a day. There will be four categories to choose from and taking on these duties will yield lots of awards, gil and experience.
Final Fantasy XIV has brought in plenty of players and with the 2.1 patch, they expect those players to stick around. This may bring in a few more players to this surprisingly successful MMO.
